Part time ( hours vary to availability with a minimum 16 hours per week). Saturday hours will be covered on a rotational basis

  • Christmas Temporary Sales Assistants, North Lanarkshire, Airdrie & Coatbridge West Lothian - Whiburn & Linlithgow.

 You will play an essential role in our ongoing success through being a friendly, fun, hardworking team member.

 

About the role - Shop Assistant  / Supervisor ( Supervisor additional requirements in red)

 

  • Your daily responsibilities will include handling money using cash, card and contactless payment, provide a high standard of customer service, be a good salesperson, taking an active role in maintaining a high standard of hygiene and presentation of self and shop.
  • Be confident using equipment and machinery such as tills, ipads, bread slicers, soup urn and coffee machine.
  • Be competent in dealing with customers i.e. helping with orders, complaints, and celebration cake selection.
  • Comply with all relevant Health, Safety, Environment, and food safety standards and working practices.
  • Flexible shift pattern offered over Monday to Saturday. Some overtime can be offered during busy times of the year.
  • Have good stock rotation and awareness of the storage of our products.
  • Your hard earned “dough” is paid weekly into your bank account.
  • Previous retail supervisor experience required.
  • Able to manage rotas and staffing including experience with disciplinary matters and interviews.
  • Ensure the daily production order is completed for the bakery
  • Be an essential link with other supervisors within the business
  • Liaise effectively with our General Manager
  • Effective promotional / sales skills
  • Good understanding of till operation and banking
  • Good understanding of food allergens and how to advise staff and customers
  • Good understanding of health and safety 
  • Experience with Environmental Health Audits
  • Basic Hygiene Certified
  • First Aid Certified -  desirable not essential.

 

Part Time Temporary Christmas Staff

  • Good motivation and time keeping.
  • Comply with all relevant Health, Safety, Environment, and food safety standards and working practices.
  • Flexible shift pattern offered over Monday to Saturday.
  • Good hygiene practises (uniform will be provided)
  • Can use own initiative during busy periods to assist the supervisior in tasks needing completed such as stock re fill, slicing cakes and bread, cleaning etc.

  • Some previous retail experience is desirable but not necessary as onsite training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of Basic Food Hygiene.

  • Build a rapport with regular customers and welcome all that walk through our door.
  • Have a proven ability to work collaboratively with your team and follow instructions/requests from your Manager and Supervisor.
  • Good communication skills and respect for our aim as a business of being the bakers of choice in the local high street and towards your colleagues
  • Be able to use your initiative during busy and quiet periods.
  • Good physical health as some heavy lifting is required.
  • Good daily time management is essential.
  • Clean, tidy, and organised work ethic.
  • Commitment to your role and be responsible within it.
  • Trustworthy and hardworking

About The Company

We aim to be “The Baker of Choice” in our local high street shops in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Whitburn, and soon to be Linlithgow. Producing over 100 different products in a week, a large variety of traditional cakes, hot plate selections, savouries, and fermented baking available for our customers. We are a busy confectionary department, making celebration cakes for all occasions, and we feel very privileged to be part of our customers’ special day. All sites serve hot-filled rolls and hot drinks. We also supply wholesale products to local hotels and businesses.

 Andrew Chisholm has owned JB Christie now Christie the Baker since October 2012 and is a third-generation baker with vast knowledge and experience within the baking industry. Our bakers' combined “Master baking knowledge” extends over 220 years and our shop supervisory staff have a combined experience of over 50 years therefore we have a well-established, highly skilled, friendly team ready to support you in your new role.

We have a mandatory in-house training programme, and will also consider supporting any relevant external training requests.

You are entitled to 4 weeks of annual leave and 8 public holidays however 3 of these 4 weeks are pre-determined when the business is closed. The last 2 weeks in July (Glasgow fair fortnight) and a week in mid-October (school holidays). Your remaining floating week is mutually agreed upon and taken anytime between January and April.

An induction programme is compulsory and a company handbook will be issued during your trial period.

No smoking/vaping etc is permitted on the premises.

There is a small staff area where you can eat your lunch, a microwave, kettle and fridge are available.

Overalls and PPE are issued but must be maintained to a high standard by you.
